Strengthening support for children with learning differences in low-resource education settings

An estimated 1 in 10 children globally have a disability, yet many education systems—particularly in low- and middle-income countries fail to meet their needs. GSF is conducting a scoping study to identify promising approaches, surface practitioner challenges, and share practical strategies to help strengthen inclusive practices and support every learner.

Mapping needs and opportunities for inclusive learning in low-resource settings

The project aims to identify key challenges and gaps in supporting children with learning differences across LMICs. Through literature reviews, expert interviews, and practitioner consultations, we are mapping the current landscape—what exists, what’s missing, and where support is most needed. This foundational work will help identify key levers to strengthen inclusive practice and inform targeted support for non-state actors.

Dissemination of evidence: Facilitating peer learning through a community of practice on learning differences

GSF is running a five-part Community of Practice that brings together frontline practitioners to explore how to better support children with learning differences. Sessions cover screening and diagnostics, teacher training, curriculum and assessment, pedagogy, and community engagement. The CoP enables peer exchange and shared learnings on practical challenges and solutions in low-resource contexts. Practitioners benefit from both cross-country insights and direct engagement with expert organisations.

Curating evidence and tools for inclusive, non-state-led education

Based on insights from the scoping study and CoP, we are looking to identify and curate tools, practices, and resources that are helping children with learning differences thrive. We aim to spotlight tested approaches that are feasible for non-state actors, especially in low-resource environments.
