Learning series on supporting with children with learning differences: Screening and identification
Join us for the fourth session, ‘Screening and Identification’, in our learning series on understanding and supporting children with learning differences.
This session builds on the previous session’s focus on understanding behaviour and trauma informed practice, moving towards how we can recognise when a child’s needs may go beyond typical needs and respond through structured screening and appropriate referral that support learning, wellbeing and inclusion.
The session will be facilitated by Kaimuri Karauki of Learning Differently, Kenya, who brings experience in neurodiversity training for teachers and organisations, a background in counselling psychology and lived experience.
The objective of this session is to help participants:
- Understand the difference between observation, screening and formal assessment, and that participants screen and refer rather than assess or diagnose.
- Use a functional, contextualised screening approach to recognise when a child’s needs go beyond typical needs, adapted for local context, language and writing system.
- Understand referral pathways and when to seek professional support.
