Community of Practice on Socio-Emotional Learning

What began in January as a shared conversation has travelled through six rich sessions with more than 55 organisations from across the Global South and beyond. Following our meaningful sixth gathering with Think Equal, we come now to our seventh and closing gathering – a moment to pause, to synthesise what we have learned together, and to carry it forward.

Across the six sessions, we have heard from Labhya (India) on the Universal Design for Learning framework; Kizazi on whole-school SEL routines; Learn To Play (Botswana) and Link Education Uganda on mindful play and supporting girls at risk; Justice Rising (DRC) on SEL in active conflict; Transcend (US) on consistent routines and the Whole Child Model; and Think Equal on a global programme reaching more than 550,000 children in 42 countries.

Join us for our final Community of Practice session, where Simple Education Foundation (SEF) will share how it is weaving SEL into foundational literacy and numeracy programmes within state-wide teacher training for primary teachers in public education systems. SEF will outline its approach and design principles, and open up the questions it is still holding, particularly around SEL measurement.

Following the presentation, members will reflect together on what they brought to the series, what we have learned across six sessions, and what we will take forward. We will also consider how these collective learnings can be embedded into existing early-years and primary-years ecosystems, so the work continues beyond the series.

This is a meaningful opportunity to pause with each other, honour what this community has built, and consider together how the learnings we have shared, too often held as a parallel SEL conversation, can be woven into the larger narratives on early years and foundational learning that our community is already shaping at scale.

More about the Community of Practice

The Global Schools Forum in collaboration with Labhya launched a Community of Practice dedicated to Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL). This practitioner-led community will move from foundational design to advanced implementation through three action-oriented sprints. We will build a shared repository of effective frameworks and tools, address the critical human element of teacher enablement, and tackle the challenge of measuring impact while scaling with quality.

We welcome your participation to move from design principles to practical implementation, and contribute to our growing repository of effective SEL strategies.
